This
month, the Book Club with Jeffrey Sachs takes up the exciting new book
"How the South Won the Civil War " by historian Heather Cox Richardson.
The live conversation between Jeffrey Sachs and Heather Cox Richardson
will take up Richardson’s provocative and fascinating thesis that the
South, not the North, came out victorious in the long run. She points
to the racism and white male oligarchy that came to rule the US South
and West, and that eventually came to succeed in US politics. Debunking
the myth that the Civil War released the nation from the grip of racist
oligarchy, thereby expunging the sins of the Founding, Richardson
reveals with the insights of a great historian how and why the Old South
not only survived in the West, but thrived nationally.
Please note that you do NOT have to have read the book to join the live session.
