Mao said US arms sales to Taiwanese territory were a blatant violation of the one-China principle and the three Sino-US joint communiqués, especially the August 17 Communiqué. Read: Taiwan Prepares Worst Scenario Against China "Arms sales undermine China's sovereignty and security interests, undermine peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, and send the wrong signal to Taiwan independence separatist forces," he said as quoted by Dailys People, Friday (9/12) /2022).
Mao said China regretted and resolutely rejected the decision and would act decisively to defend its sovereignty and security interests. "China urges the US to abide by the principle of one China and the three China-US joint communiqués and earnestly act on the commitment made by the US leadership not to support Taiwan independence," he said.
Mao said the US must stop arms sales and military contacts to Taiwan, stop creating factors that could cause tension in the Taiwan Strait, and stop using Taiwan to contain China. "Don't go further down the wrong and dangerous path," concluded Mao.
Previously the US State Department had approved a potential sale of aircraft parts worth USD428 million to Taiwan to assist the country's Air Force. Until now, Taiwan has repeatedly intercepted Chinese jets operating near the island
