[Salon] Yair Lapid reprimands Ukraine ambassador for saying he used Russian rhetoric - The Jerusalem Post

I’ve become disheartened at the eagerness my fellow countrymen/women have for going to war again, though Republicans who avoid self-examination will blame it all on Biden even while their own fanatics are outdoing Biden’s in eagerness for war. And for the rare one who cautions against war with Russia, it's only because they don’t want anything to interfere with war on China, and being too stupid no doubt, or disingenuous, to realize that if we go to war against one or the other, the war makers will insist it be a “two-fer,” as long time US doctrine called for, and who wants to have any balls remain on the table so to speak, when we can clean them all up and have the kind of “peace” that fascists always promise.

But here’s an interesting take, and one I agree with, though it may be the only thing I will ever agree with Yair Lapid on. Which is that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was always a mad fantasy, as it makes no sense from a tactical or strategic matter, though the use of military force would not be out of the question, I would assume, should the Ukrainian’s 100,000 + troops arrayed around the ethnic Russia enclave of Donbass go one the offensive again against the ethnic Russians, as a “Humanitarian Intervention” in our terms. Furthermore, I suspect most older Americans still have the image of Russia as a bastion of anti-semitism, which, according to the Israeli I traveled with in Russia on one of Sharon Tennison’s trips, is not the case, and the there are regular daily flight between Israel and Russia, as relatives go back and forth routinely. But Americans, evidently, would like to incinerate a lot of Jews again, as was done in the past, in both Ukraine and Russia, as that is what has a high potential of happening should we go to war against Russia, with the potential use of tactical nuclear weapons with greater explosive poser than what was used in Japan. But let that be on the pro-war/inciters of war folk’s conscience, if they have one.

The Foreign Ministry summoned Ukraine’s ambassador for a reprimand on Thursday, after the diplomat accused Foreign Minister Yair Lapid of repeating Russian rhetoric.
Lapid said a day earlier that his evaluation is that he “doesn’t see a violent conflict happening soon; I don’t think a world war will break out” between Russia and Ukraine.
The Foreign Minister’s statement in an interview with Walla differed from that of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who has warned of an imminent Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Lapid also said the tensions between Russia and Ukraine are especially complicated for Israel in light of the fact that there is a Jewish community in Ukraine.
“We are concerned that it is distracting [American] attention from the nuclear talks in Vienna,” Lapid added.

Ukrainian Ambassador to Israel Yevgen Korniychuk took issue with Lapid using the term “conflict” instead of war to describe the situation.
“It is a shame that Mr. Lapid has not noticed the war in the center of Europe which lasts for eight years already,” Korniychuk wrote on Facebook. “Unfortunately, Mr. Minister reiterates rhetoric of Russian propaganda and ignores the disturbing messages from his own strongest allies – USA, Britain and EU – regarding the high possibility of a full-scale Russian military invasion into Ukraine in coming weeks.”
As for Iran, Korniychuk said, “If a full-scale war breaks out in Europe, Israel will be left face-to-face with the Iranian threat.”
Lapid is expected to speak with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in the coming days, and Korniychuk called on him to speak to the Ukrainian side as well, “to see the real picture instead of using Russian clichés.” He also called on senior Israeli officials to show solidarity by visiting Kyiv.
Jerusalem has not yet set a date for Korniychuk’s reprimand by the Foreign Ministry’s deputy director-general for Eurasia.
