Kazakhstan’s revenues from the transportation of cargo via its internal water transport infrastructure amounted to 433.8 million tenge (US$907,530) over the period from January through June 2022, an increase of over five times more than during the same period of 2021, according to Kazakhstan’s Statistics Committee.

The volume of cargo transported via maritime and coastal transport during H1 amounted to 254,880 tons, down 23.9% compared to the same period of last year. However, cargo turnover amounted to 44.9 million ton-kilometers which is more than double the 22.1 million ton-kilometers during the same period of last year. Currently, there are three Caspian seaports in Kazakhstan, all of them centered around the Aktau port region on Kazakhstan’s west coast.

Aktau International Commercial Sea Port is a modern multi-purpose terminal that allows the transportation of goods from East to West, from North to South, and back 12 months a year, 24 hours a day.

Bautino Cargo Port is a division of Aktau International Commercial Sea Port and is located in the village of Bautino (150 km from the city of Aktau), in the waters of the Bautino Bay of Tyubkaragansky Gulf.

Kuryk Port is located on the coast of the Caspian Sea, south of Aktau city. The port has direct access to the railway. The ferry complex of the port is designed for the transshipment of goods, including grain, petroleum products, fertilizers, and chemicals.

These ports are important parts of the ‘Middle Corridor’ enabling cargo from the European Union to transit via Azerbaijan’s Baku Port, ship to Kazakhstan’s Aktau Ports and then across to China – and vice-versa.
