[Salon] Russia Claims Responsibility for Kremenchuk Mall Strike

Read the headline, then read the story carefully and consider what is not reported..We cannot trust the reporting of even our most respected journals on this war to be free of propagandistic distortion.

The Financial Times, June 28, 2022 [attached]

"Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskyy said more than 1,000 people were in the shopping centre when the strike hit, describing the death toll as “impossible to imagine”." Subsequently, the Ukrainian emergency services reported that the attack had caused the death of 16 people and wounded 59.

"Russia claimed it had hit a weapons depot in a factory that stored high-precision air-launched missiles in a strike aimed at destroying US and European supplies for Ukraine’s armed forces." “The detonation of the munitions for western weaponry in storage led to a fire in a non-functioning shopping centre next to the factory,” Russian defence ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said on Tuesday." Here's the Russian Ministry of Defense statement:
On June 27, in Kremenchug (Poltava region), Russian Aerospace Forces launched a high-precision air attack at hangars with armament and munitions delivered by USA and European countries at Kremenchug road machinery plant.

High-precision attack has resulted in the neutralisation of west-manufactured armament and munitions concentrated at the storage area for being delivered to Ukrainian group of troops in Donbass.

Detonation of the storaged munitions caused a fire in a non-functioning shopping centre next to the facilities of the plant.

"US secretary of state Antony Blinken said on Monday that the strike in Kremenchuk was “the latest in a string of atrocities”." While any deaths are a tragedy and Russia is clearly responsible for these, this is what we habitually call "collateral damage" when it results from our own "high-precision air attacks."
