BERLIN, 21. August. /TASS/. The popularity ratings of Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) continue to fall. Last week, the German head of government lost five places and fell to 12th place among German politicians. This is evident from the data of a survey carried out by the sociological institute Insa on behalf of the Bild-Zeitung.
Last week, Scholz was still in seventh place in the popularity scale of German politicians. The chancellor is followed by Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock from the Greens (place 13) and Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach (place 14). The German Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Protection Robert Habeck (Greens) also lost approval and fell from 15th to 17th place. This made the Minister of Economic Affairs even more unpopular than the co-chairwoman of the German party "Alternative for Germany" (AfD) Alice Weidel, who, on the contrary, earned two places and is now in 16th place.
The rating is led by Federal Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius. The Bavarian Prime Minister and Chairman of the Christian Social Union (CSU), Markus Söder, is in second place. Hendrik Wüst (CDU), Prime Minister of the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, rounds off the top three. According to sociologists, the chairman of the opposition Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Friedrich Merz, who could compete with Scholz in the upcoming elections, has significantly strengthened his position. He advanced to 9th place, while he was still in 14th place the previous week.
In addition, according to the newspaper, the majority of Germans are already convinced that the Greens have better chances if Baerbock becomes their chancellor candidate.

Previously, it was reported that according to the results of a telephone opinion poll conducted by the Elections Research Group on behalf of ZDF, more than half of Germans are dissatisfied with the way Scholz deals with the fulfillment of his duties in office. Such a number of dissatisfied with the work of the Federal Chancellor is determined for the first time since he took office in 2021. For example, 51 percent of respondents stated that they were dissatisfied with Scholz's performance, while 43 percent of respondents expressed the opposite opinion.
