About a month ago, Jonathan McCormick, a frequent contributor to Radio Slovakia International, prepared the following show for them:
For a full eight years before Russia’s invasion in February of 2022, Ukraine had been undergoing its own violent internal conflict, a conflict with long historical roots. Among the many casualties of this conflict is someone who was trying very hard to stop it. Ruslan Kotsaba, a Ukrainian war correspondent turned peace activist, did prison time for his pacifism and later fled the country when charged with treason. Jonathan spoke with him about his experience as a pacifist, as well as with two Western experts on Ukraine who disagree over Kotsaba’s characterisation of the conflict: Alexander Duleba, founder of the Slovak Foreign Policy Association, and Nicolai Petro, Professor of Political Science at the University of Rhode Island.
They chose not to air it, so Jonathan launched his own podcast, called The Silver Trumpet, where he has posted this show along with several additional excerpts from the show: “A Ukrainian Pacifist Speaks Up,” by Jonathan McCormick, The Silver Trumpet, August 22, 2023.
