I’m surprised to see this on The Forward, though I’m not a regular reader as I am of Haaretz. Regardless of what I think is its usual sentiments, this is an important article to read, to include what is shown as the complete “willful blindness” of this American rabbi: “How could it come to this, that Jewish young men should ransack and burn homes and cars?” said Moshe Hauser, the rabbinic leader of the New York-based Orthodox Union, in a statement.” A “willful blindness” fully matched by trump/DeSantis supporting "Traditional Conservatives” who averted their eyes from how Trump escalated all that they denounce “Neoconservatives” of doing! And now what DeSantis is promising! Speaking as he does as if Settler terrorism/violence isn’t just a fact of life in Occupied Palestine, and has been from the beginning of “settlements” under military occupation, in open violation of International Law, compare that naivety, or willful blindness/conscious avoidance, with a more objective, longer time horizon analysis, of this Palestinian quoted at the end of the article: "The entrepreneur, who previously ran a car business, never worried that Smotrich was literally going to send bulldozers into Hawara and raze the town. While we hear of a “cycle of violence,” and reading this article from the typical US and Israeli perspective, both in how it is written, and in how we ordinarily read it, though commending the article overall as a fairly “fair” representation of what the Palestinians are suffering, a “perception” is created that an “isolated event,” with no history to it, the shooting of the two brothers, as Settlers near Hawara, is what “caused” the Settler attacks upon the Palestinians, and in effect, shifting blame on to the Palestinians! Starting the “narrative” at that point, conceals that the “origin” of the violence extends much further back in the past. As our U.S. founding fathers, said in the Declaration of Independence, "But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, . . . The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States.” In summary, in my words, the "right” to resistance, even violently, as a “right of self-defense,” available to all human beings, exists against repression. Even to Palestinians, U.S. African Americans, Catholics in Northern Ireland who were denied “rights” for so long, leading to massacres by the British against Catholic protesters (see Bloody Sunday), where graffiti is still on the walls in West Belfast: “Repression Breeds Resistance! The “causation” of our American Revolution didn’t arise from any singular event. Nor did the rioting after the George Floyd murder (along with too many other high-profile murders by police as a “long train” of abuses), nor did the Russian invasion of Ukraine (as Clausewitz understood, and wrote, “War is never an isolated Act," and anyone who follows “U.S. National Security” policy, knows that the CIA/USSOCOM, is always “”destabilizing” countries through the multiple domains of warfare, to include internal subversion and outright, though clandestine, “kinetic warfare”). But rather all followed a “long train of abuses,” creating explosive situations which were finally "set off” with what appeared to “stupid people” (in the Latinate sense :-) as a single, outrageous act. Just as “Good Americans” believed, and probably, stupid people, in the non-Latinate sense, still do, that the alleged, single, if that (not tw0), North Vietnamese attack on a US ship in the Gulf of Tonkin came “right out of the blue," and how dare someone suggest that the CIA served up a convenient provocation to enable us to launch air attacks upon North and South Vietnam (the Viet Cong), to precipitate the Vietnam War and the killing of 55,000+ Americans, and over a million Vietnamese, all attributable (historically, at least) to the CIA/DOD, and other assorted American militarists. With the McCarthyite war fanatics of the Conservative Movement at National Review magazine leading the charge in inciting the war, and fomenting escalation of it, under the Senatorial leadership of Barry Goldwater. Which is undeniable, even though Johnson was President and gave the go-ahead. But instead of looking for the actual “origin” of violence/war, we virtually always avert our eyes from seeing “when” the cycle of violence begins, as in this quote: Furthermore,
Just like a journalist to see events on such a narrow "time horizon,” as if on a “news cycle” which quickly disposes of “old news,” so that any event older than 24 hours is flushed down the "memory hole.” When in fact, human beings, other than most journalists (Sy Hersh, and not many others excepted), have “memory” as essential to their minds and their humanity. Which can readily be taken advantage of through what the US once called “PsyOps," and later, Perception Management, and more recently, in line with Israel’s own: Cognitive Warfare. Meaning in each case, if the “perceptions” humans are allowed to receive are only what the government wants them to receive, written, or video, or just from communication with other humans, then the government can have full control of the “narrative” people believe, and therefore, of their very “cognition.” Shortening the “time horizon,” deny’s the human ability to see the “events” which went before, which are “causative factors," and deny’s anticipation of the predictable results which will most likely follow, and permit an "accountable democracy” to possibly change a misbegotten policy, before it does even more harm to its own citizens. Though not a “Totalitarian Democracy,” which silences its own people while denouncing “free speech, free press,” and for that matter, Free Assange, who was acting as that “Centinel” that James Madison called for, against Alexander Hamilton and other Federalist, who passed the Sedition Act the first chance they got as well. As we’re seeing with the USG criminality in denying citizens “the right to know” (its called the First Amendment, which explains why it caused a former CIA officer to foam at the mouth on even hearing the words, “free speech,” as so many Republicans did with Julian Assange, with Trump foremost in that in raising the charges against Assange to Espionage Act violations. The other significance of this article is it fully reveals the criminality, and duplicity, as well of the Republicans, and particularly Trump, and Desantis, who’s fully onboard with Trump’s co-belligerency with Israel in their illegal war against Palestinians (and Iran), in which Settlers play the role of a fascist paramilitary. While “New Right” cheerleaders lied to us that “Trump didn’t start any new wars,” which is only “true” he didn’t start Israel’s 1967 War, but he joined the US in on it, as a co-belligerent, in both a continuation of it, but also an escalation. Sort of like when Germany joined Japan against the US, after Japan attacked the US, if Joesph Goebbels had told the German people that Der Fuhrer, “didn’t "start” any new wars!
