[Salon] Banality of Evil

In looking for the article I just shared, I scrolled through others recently posted, which I believe add to the point of the interviewee in the article I just shared, and of my own realization of the “true nature” of the U.S. Warfare State. A “Benevolent Nation,” as we’ve always sold ourselves as ever since we took the side of one Indian tribe near Plymouth as pretext to wage war against another, in1621, and have been at war ever since! Benevolent? F-that, we’re as Malevolent as any nation on earth has ever been.

And in fact, served as inspiration with our system of Concentration Camps for our Indigenous Peoples, for that later would-be World Conquerer in Germany! Not passing judgment on the overall benefit or detriment of the US on world history, but just stating what in fact we are, and have been, which is necessary if we are ever to break out of American Exceptionalist ideology. Even if that brings down accusations of “Wokeness” upon me, and denunciations for not supporting Hillsdale College’s “Patriotic Education” program as Trump called for.

Once again the lament that our “kids” aren’t being taught “history,” is coming from Conservatives and Straussians (I repeat myself), which I too have a concern for. Except I know what “Conservative History” is intended to be, right out of Regnery's revisionist history publishing (see Hillsdale’s Prof. Birzer’s outrageous white-wash of Andrew Jackson) and Hillsdale’s ideological “Patriotic History/Education, as Indoctrination. As I know so many Rightists support that, and support the Original McCarthyites who Eisenhower denounced correctly as “Book Burners.” So Trump or DeSantis will have their full support, and maybe we can have bonfires on the National Mall soon to extirpate such dangerous ideas as acknowledging that slaves weren’t in fact treated as well as this “Paleoconservative” claimed:

But these articles posted recently by Chas give a correct sense of what the “true nature” of the US is, in fact:

"Interestingly enough, this is not the first time China has been compared to a Great White Shark in recent western punditry. The Hoover Institution’s Matt Pottinger, a former advisor to President Donald Trump, made a similar comparison in an interview with Nikkei Asia earlier this month:”

Ahh, yes, the good old, ultra-Conservative (Militarist),  Hoover Institution, still doing all it can to incite U.S. wars, which I would guess comes with a lot of money from DOD/CIA, and the usual right-wing Oligarchs that always fund pro-war “think tanks,” such as National Conservative/New Right favorite Peter Thiel? And where Trump’s former advisors go to help cook up more wars, like Pottinger. Also where I met the noted “Peacenik,” Gen. Mattis, while visiting their Edward Lansdale archives about six years ago.  And like other war promoters/militarists doing their “dirty work,” at the highest level of “Cognitive Warfare,” fomenting a revolutionary, fascist, change to the “cultural milieu” we inhabit. That is how genuine fascists understand “PsyWar” as Willmoore Kendall and James Burnham were such experts at. While fellow “Rightists” distract us with the “cultural Wokeism” so-called “threat,” broadly defined to include anyone/thing that looks even somewhat critically at U.S. history. Like they once exaggerated the “Communist threat,” as McCarthyites at the founding of National Review. As a Stanford man, I wonder how much money the Schmittian (hereafter, Fascist, taking it from Schmitt’s ideology, and applicable to anyone who propagates Schmitt’s ideology) “Military Intelligence Complex,” New Right Oligarch, Peter Thiel, so beloved by The American Conservative magazine, contributes to them?

But here’s more:

It has done so before, not only in Turkey and Thailand, but also in many other countries.

For a long time, the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has plotted "peaceful evolution" and "color revolutions" as well as spying activities around the world. Although details about these operations have always been murky, a new report released by China's National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center and Chinese cybersecurity company 360 on Thursday unveiled the main technical means the CIA has used to scheme and promote unrest around the world.
...
For decades, the CIA has overthrown or attempted to overthrow at least 50 legitimate governments abroad (the CIA has only recognized seven of these instances), causing turmoil in related countries. Whether it is the "color revolution" in Ukraine in 2014, the "sunflower revolution" in Taiwan island, China, or the "saffron revolution" in Myanmar in 2007, the "green revolution" in Iran in 2009, and other attempted "color revolutions" -- the US intelligence agencies are behind them all, according to the report.

The US' leading position in technologies of telecommunication and on-site command has provided unprecedented possibilities for the US intelligence community to launch "color revolutions" abroad. The report released by the National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center and 360 disclosed five methods commonly used by the CIA.

(TP-This is an indisputable fact!)

BLUF: "As Timothy Garton Ash effused in the Guardian in 2002, “NATO has become a European peace movement” where one could watch “John Lennon meet George Bush”. Today, by contrast, following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Sweden and Finland abandoned their long-standing traditions of neutrality and opted for membership. Nato is portrayed as a military alliance — and Ukraine a war — that even former pacifists can get behind. All its proponents seem to be singing is “Give War a Chance”.

"The Jolie campaign marked a dramatic turn in what Katharine A.M. Wright and Annika Bergman Rosamond call “Nato’s strategic narrative” in several ways. First, the alliance embraced celebrity star power for the first time, imbuing its unremarkable brand with elite glamour and beauty. Jolie’s star power meant that the alluring images of the event reached apolitical audiences with little knowledge of Nato. Second, the partnership seemed to usher in an era in which women’s rights, gendered violence and feminism would assume a more prominent role in Nato rhetoric. Since then, and especially in the past 12 months, telegenic female leaders such as the Finnish Prime Minister, Sanna Marin, German Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, and Estonian Prime Minister, Kaja Kallas, have increasingly served as the spokespersons of enlightened militarism in Europe. The alliance has also intensified its engagement with popular culture, new technologies, and youth influencers.

"The academic Merje Kuus has written that Nato enlargement involves “a two-fold legitimation” strategy. First, Nato is rendered ordinary and unremarkable, pedestrian and everyday, and second, it is portrayed as above reproach, vital, an absolute moral good. The effect of this, she says, is the simultaneous banalisation and glorification of Nato: it becomes so blandly bureaucratic that it is below debate, and so “existential and essential”, that it is above debate.”

Ahh yes, the Banality of Evil, once again, right here in "River City,” so to speak.
