[Salon] FYI: PayPal and Venmo permanently banned me

We managed to raise over $90,000 from supporters, and the powers that be tried to take it away. But you guys didn’t take it lying down, and neither have we.

Now, thanks to supporters like you, we’ve raised over $136,000 on a dedicated platform that’s promised that every penny you give will go directly to us, to ensure we can keep putting out the groundbreaking journalism you’ve come to expect.

These tactics aren’t new to us. Last year, I was permanently banned me from PayPal and Venmo. And GoFundMe’s attempt to seize your donations makes it clear: there’s a coordinated, state-backed effort to cut us off from the financial system.

We’re gonna keep fighting anyway, and we know you will too.

Over the past two weeks, we’ve gotten messages of support from many of the 1,500+ people who’ve donated so far, and the solidarity has been absolutely unreal.

Knowing we’ve had an impact on so many of you is what keeps us going.
