US President Joe Biden and his top advisors have issued a warning to Israel during private conversations about growing difficulties on the international stage over the multitude of war crimes committed in Gaza.
According to CNN, Biden, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, and Secretary of State Antony Blinken have stated to Israel that “eroding support will have dire strategic consequences for Israel Defense Forces operations against Hamas.”
The US news outlet also says that government officials believe time is running out for Israel to keep its promise of taking out Hamas before the global outrage over the humanitarian suffering boils over and support for Israel is lost completely.
Officials say that this moment may arrive “sooner than later.”
Biden and his national security team were taken aback, two sources close to the matter told CNN, by the recent attacks on the Jabalia refugee camp. The sources said that Biden “didn’t like this at all.”
“The problem for [Israel] is that the criticism is getting louder, not just among their detractors, but from their best friends,” one of the officials said.
The sources added that Biden told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the images of Palestinian women and children being dragged out from rubble due to Israeli airstrikes could narrow Israel’s ability to continue with its current operation.
Blinken is in Israel to speak with Netanyahu before heading for an Arab summit in Jordan.
"We will be talking about concrete steps that can and should be taken to minimize harm to men, women, and children in Gaza," Blinken said about his trip to Tel Aviv.
US support has been complete since the start of the Al-Aqsa Flood operation. The Cradle columnist Hassan Illaik writes that the US has been fueling a regional war and hiding the impurities of the Israeli government for the sake of achieving its goals.
“Washington is working hard to whitewash its right-wing Israeli ally's genocidal assault on Gaza by introducing humanitarian aid in small quantities,” Illaik says. “At the same time, the US seeks to get rid, even if only partially, of the burden of Israeli captives, via Qatari-mediated negotiations to release several Israeli and foreign prisoners held by the Palestinian resistance since 7 October.”
