THE TIME HAS COME TO RECONSIDER MASSIVE U.S. AID TO ISRAEL
———————————————-
Israel,
a prosperous country, is the largest beneficiary of U.S. aid in
history, having received approximately $150 billion in taxpayer
assistance as of 2022, according to a report by the Congressional
Research Service. President Biden now proposes to provide Israel with
an additional $14 billion.
Unfortunately,
we are financing policies with which we disagree and which threaten our
interests and regional peace. President Biden and Secretary of State
Blinken repeatedly speak of a “two-state solution.” But Israeli Prime
Minister Netanyahu rejects this. When Prime minister Yitzhak Rabin was
moving toward establishment of a Palestinian state, he was assassinated
by an ultra-Orthodox right-wing activist. Several members of the
Netanyahu Cabint view the assassin, Yigal Amir, in heroic terms.
Prime
Ministrr Netanyahu rejects the two state solution. He speaks of
“annexing” the West Bank, and members of his government speak of
expelling the indigenous Palestinian inhabitants. Israel, in violation
of international law, has occupied the West Bank for more than 50 years.
In the West Bank, Palestinians live under a system characterized as
“apartheid” by Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and the Israeli
human rights organization B’Tselem.
It is difficult to understand why U.S. taxpayers should finance policies such as these.
