According to a report of the Munich Security Conference, it is being displaced by citizens' fear of mass migration and terrorist threats by radicalized Muslims
According to German citizens, Russia has fallen from first to seventh place in the list of the most important threats to German security compared to 2023. This is evident from the annual report of the Munich Security Conference, which was presented in Berlin.
According to the forum's report, German citizens saw Russia in 2023 as the most important threat to German security, now it only takes seventh place. It was suppressed by the fears of the Germans in connection with mass migration and the terrorist threat from radicalized Muslims.
A similar change took place in the perception of security threats by the inhabitants of the G7 countries. For example, the threat from Russia only ranks fourth in the current report, while it was still at the top of the list a year ago.
The list of the most important security threats of the Munich Conference is based on surveys in 12 countries, including the G7 and BRICS countries, with the exception of Russia. In each of these countries, 1,000 people were surveyed. The surveys were conducted between the 24th. October and the 16th November 2023 carried out online.
The Munich Conference was founded in 1962 by the German publicist Ewald-Heinrich von Kleist as a "meeting of representatives of the defense ministries" of the NATO member states. Since 1999, politicians and military personnel from Central and Eastern European countries as well as representatives of the economy have been participating in it. The forum has traditionally been the scene of numerous informal and personal meetings of politicians to discuss new initiatives in the field of security policy. In 2024, the conference will take place from the 16th to the 18th. February.
