BLUF: "December’s attack was not a mere search-and-arrest operation, or even an operation targeting resistance fighters as the Israeli military claimed. At least 1,000 Palestinians — all men and boys, mostly youth, including people with chronic illnesses — were reportedly detained over the course of the 60-hour invasion. Most were eventually released, but not before being taken either to the Salem military camp northwest of Jenin, or being put through brutal field interrogations.

"Those subjected to the latter were frequently blindfolded, stripped, and left in strenuous sitting positions, often outside in the cold and rain. Some of the detainees reported that soldiers plastered the Israeli flag on them while in custody; videos later corroborated these testimonies.”

The only difference between this and routine “arbitrary detentions” by Israel of Palestinians occurring continuously in the West Bank irrespective of Gaza, and a fact of life for Palestinians since 1967, the the spike in quantity since October, with that as an “instrument” of Israeli military occupation/state terror method of control and torture.

Making it even more odious when self-identified Conservatives like at the link below justify, trivialize and relativize, the Israeli torturous, state terrorist practice of arbitrary detentions! Which are never-ending as Israeli Military Occupation tactics are to “terrorize” Palestinians, with night raids and other cruel, terror inducing measures. Just as German practices were to do the same in places like Poland, Czechoslovakia, and other military occupation areas in WW II, using the same routine tactics of “Control.”

These tactics are an ongoing "Crime Against Humanity!” And justifying, or acquiescing, or just remaining silent, is to become complicit in them. And began long before 7 Oct by Israel; its “Policy.” And as loathsome as the majority of Democrats are with their concurrence in this “Crime,” or with their silence, but with opposition to it as well by a minority, even worse are their political opponents, the Republikudniks, “Conservatives, who are actively cheering it on! Or at least “trivialize and relativize” these Crimes Against Humanity, as if it’s the “natural course of human events” for Palestinians to be subject to a torturous, terrorist regime of military occupiers.

These words are penned in hunger from Gaza

Welcome to +972’s Sunday Recap! Here’s your wrap-up of the latest articles from our contributors.

Mariam Barghouti wrote about Israel’s incessant and deadly incursions into Jenin refugee camp since October 7, which are increasingly driving Palestinians who were children of the Second Intifada to take up arms.

Writing from the Gaza neighborhood of Shuja’iya, Mahmoud Mushtaha wrote about how, from the daily indignity of searching for food to the dangers of doing journalistic work, life in the northern Strip has become impossible.

Oren Ziv photographed and reported on dozens of Israeli settlers and right-wing as they stormed the Erez Crossing with Gaza, building wooden structures while soldiers and police stood aside for hours. Oren also interviewed Sofia Orr, a young Israeli conscientious objector, who explained why she never wavered in her decision to refuse army service despite the crackdown against opponents of the war.

And in the face of attacks against our colleagues Basel Adra and Yuval Abraham, +972 and Local Call issued a joint editorial statement condemning the repressive forces working to silence those who speak hard truths about Israeli apartheid.
