Resistance Axis must make Israel regret Gaza onslaught: Iranian FM
The top Iranian official made the comments during a meeting with the leader of the Hamas politburo in Qatar
Iranian interim Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani met with senior Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Qatar on 20 June, where the two discussed current war efforts.
Bagheri Kani said that resistance groups should use their abilities to make Israel pay for its aggressions against the Palestinian people in Gaza.
“It is necessary to implement all capacities to make the Zionists’ aggression and crimes costly,” the Iranian official said.
He noted that it should not be limited to military wings on the ground fighting Israeli forces but that it is also a responsibility of the political leadership.
The Iranian minister said that resistance should be conducted in legal and political domains as well as in public diplomacy.
He praised the steadfastness of the Palestinian people and the Palestinian resistance fighters and laid out Iran’s political efforts in place to further support the resistance forces.
Haniyeh praised the Iranian support and thanked the Islamic Republic’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, and the nation's people for their solidarity.
The Hamas leader also confirmed that the movement’s position is compatible with the ceasefire conditions in the UN Security Council’s resolution and US President Joe Biden's speech.
To date, the ceasefire negotiation efforts between Hamas and Israel mediated by Qatar, Egypt, and the US have called short on agreeing to a permanent ceasefire solution that includes the release of Israeli captives.
During the meeting, Haniyeh praised the supporting fronts in Lebanon, Yemen, and Iraq for their “positive repercussions” on the situation in Palestine.
He also praised Hezbollah’s Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah’s Wednesday speech for reaffirming the resistance fronts’ resolute aim of stopping Israel’s war on Gaza.
Both Haniyeh and Bagheri Kani emphasized the importance of bringing the Islamic world together to stop the genocide and provide needed aid to the Palestinians in the besieged enclave.
