[Salon] Democratic Party restiveness at the local level

I am grateful to Elizabeth Colton for her calling to my attention the restiveness of very local levels of the Democratic Party in swing states.  I have not seen this reported in our national media.  Liz reports:

This just showed up on Facebook, a letter from a leading young Dem leader (elected Register of Deeds, very active in the Dem party) in Buncombe County (western North Carolina-Asheville county seat).  The dam seems to be starting to break at critical grass-roots levels, like here in Buncombe County.

An open letter to North Carolina Democratic Party leaders and delegates.
Last week’s debate was very difficult to watch. I’ve had dozens of conversations this week with folks across the political spectrum who share my deep concerns about Joe Biden’s ability to win in November.
There is no clear path forward here: I recognize every route we take is very risky. It is my belief (backed by national polling) that if we choose to do nothing because it's uncomfortable and stay the course, we will lose by large margins. North Carolina is going to have a substantial impact on the upcoming Presidential election. Unfortunately, the Presidential election also is going to have a disproportionate impact down the ballot on critical North Carolina races. The consequences could lead to Mark Robinson becoming Governor with a fully unchecked General Assembly. With our swing state status, NC has an outsized say in the presidential election. Let's use the small amount of influence we have as party leaders to ask President Biden to not seek re-election.
I love Joe Biden. He saved our American democracy from Donald Trump in 2020. For that, we owe him a substantial debt of gratitude. In order to help preserve his good name and his legacy, we have to ask Joe Biden to step aside.
While we still have a democracy left, we have to put forward a candidate who can effectively communicate the values of working class people. Joe Biden has proven he can no longer communicate what's at stake. Voters do not know what he has achieved or why they should re-elect him. Party volunteers are deeply uninspired by President Biden to go knock on doors for his re-election. Voters deserve a candidate we can eagerly support and trust to win.
North Carolina Democrats have put together an impressive ballot this year. Inspirational candidates like Braxton Winston and Jeff Jackson will fire up college campuses across the State. Natasha Marcus and Lindsey Prather are leading in difficult races, reminding voters what matters. These candidates deserve a fighting chance to win. We need a presidential nominee who won't take away from the ticket but will add to it.
As delegates to the convention and party leaders, I'm asking you to join me in calling for Joe Biden to step down, so delegates can decide in an open, transparent, organized DNC convention, who the best nominee should be for President. Whomever can communicate the best case to DNC delegates for America's future should be the next nominee.
North Carolina Democratic Party leaders and delegates should be bold and demand more for the voters we represent.
Drew Reisinger
Buncombe County Register of Deeds
Note: I stand ready to help in any way I can to elect whomever the Democratic nominee in November is.
