[Salon] UN General Assembly vote on ending the occupation of Palestine

FM: John Whitbeck

The UN General Assembly has today approved the State of Palestine's resolution calling for ending the illegal Israeli occupation of Palestine in accordance with international law, as recently confirmed by the definitive opinion of International Court of Justice.

The vote was 124 in favor and 14 against with 43 states abstaining and 12 states not voting.

Transmitted below is the list of shame of those states which, by being unwilling to support even this non-binding resolution on a matter of principle, have made clear that they do not believe that international law should be respected and complied with and do not believe that 57 years of brutal and illegal occupation is long enough and should end:

NEGATIVE VOTES (14):

Argentina, Czechia, Fiji, Hungary, Israel, Malawi, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Tonga, Tuvalu and United States

ABSTENTIONS (43):

Albania, Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Cameroon, Canada, Congo (DRC), Costa Rica, Croatia, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Georgia, Germany, Guatemala, Haiti, India, Italy, Kenya, Kiribati, Liberia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Moldova, Nepal, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Panama, Poland, Romania, Rwanda, Samoa, Serbia, Slovakia, South Korea, South Sudan, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Uruguay and Vanuatu

Support for the "principles" regarding Russia/Ukraine being asserted by states of the Global West is unlikely to be enhanced among the states of the Global Rest by the Western votes on this resolution.
