Israeli occupation forces have established seven permanent military positions along the “disengagement line” in southern Syria, spanning Damascus, Daraa, and Quneitra, reports Al-Mayadeen citing a local source.

The posts, located in strategic areas including Mount Hermon, the Yarmouk Basin, and Qurs al-Nafal Hill, provide Israel with critical oversight of the Syrian capital and surrounding areas. The occupation now controls nearly 500 square kilometres of Syrian territory, having demolished numerous Syrian military sites amid the rebel takeover. The occupation army has also advanced toward critical water resources like the Sahm Golan Dam and have taken control of the Yarmouk riverbed and the Al-Wahda Dam.

Tensions escalated on Friday when Israeli forces fired on protesters in the Quneitra countryside. Demonstrators in the village of Maariya were rallying against Israeli encroachment on agricultural lands when a man, identified as Maher Al-Hussein, was shot in the leg.

The occupation military claimed the protester posed a “threat,” justifying the use of live ammunition under “standard operating procedures.”

While Syria’s de-facto leader, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, also known as Abu Mohammed Al-Jolani has ruled out fighting against Israel, the interim government’s spokesman Obaid Arnaut, who previously refused to comment on Israel’s aggression against the country said the government’s approach “will be outlined in the near future” without providing details.

“People are angry and think that the regime has been replaced by the Israeli aggression. I currently have no further details on this matter,” he said adding that “Our primary goal is to ensure Syria is safe from any external threats.”
