My Chinese American colleagues in Texas public universities such as the whole U Texas including MD Anderson are now required to report family visit trip to China ahead of trip, and provide a post-travel briefing detailing the trip. Land of the free (your experience may differ).

From a colleague: “We started last December at UT (U Texas). I had a personal trip and told my department. Then per EO (executive order), I also wrote a daily report what I did and who I met. (Day 1, grocery shopping with mom. Day 2, shopping with brother …).”

Most faculty who visit China for “personal trip” are Chinese American faculty visiting family. It’s a strategy of racial profiling without specifying the race.

Shocking. Since when do family visits require a permission slip? Chinese-American professors at Texas public universities, including all of UT and MD Anderson, now have to report their trips to China before they go and debrief after they return. If the ‘land of the free’ keeps this up, don’t be shocked when China starts winning back its best brains without moving a finger. Plus, China doesn’t do this to foreign talents working here. What America is doing is ridiculous. How far will they take this?
