[Salon] Article on USAID

Chas,

Last week I was confronted with the information that two Democratic political consultants, friends in a past life, had made statements suggesting that USAID wasn't a popular political case and that it wasn't wise to defend it. That led me to consider the difficulties we face in justifying investments that prevent various global crises. "Crisis averted" is rarely going to make the headlines. In any case, that gave me yet another angle to explain USAID's vital contributions on a number of policy fronts. Here is the result of my reflections which you may share with Salon readers::

FYI, I hear from Peter Fenn that Margaret was one of those whose SS number was released along with the Kennedy assination file. That is outrageous! What sloppy work, and all to enable Trump to say that he kept a campaign promise. Please give my best to her.

Best, Brian
