[Salon] srael has turned two-thirds of Gaza into no-go zones, UN says

FM: John Whitbeck

The AL JAZEERA report at the link transmitted below speaks for itself.

The final sentence is significant -- indeed, virtually historic -- since it is accurate.

It reads: "At least 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led October 7 attack and more than 200 taken captive."

Almost all media, even some sympathetic to the Palestinian cause, persist in reciting like holy writ that at least 1200 people, or even at least 1200 Israelis, were killed by Hamas on October 7.

However:

(1) It was clear from the start that many undisciplined non-Hamas freelancers who spontaneously took advantage of the breached fences were involved in the October 7 killings;

(2) Before the end of 2023, the Israeli government formally reduced its official figure for the number of non-Palestinians killed on October 7 (originally at least 1400 and subsequently at least 1200) to 1139, comprised of 695 Israeli civilians, 373 Israeli security forces and 71 foreigners; and

(3) The Israeli authorities have since admitted that a significant number of those Israelis who were killed on October 7 were killed by Israeli forces implementing the better-dead-than-hostage Hannibal Directive.

AL JAZEERA is to be commended for formulating, in a few words, an accurate description of the October 7 death toll.

One may hope that at least some other media will be inspired to follow suit.
