Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's visit to Washington was described in the Israeli press as "the most unsuccessful US meeting in history". Netanyahu's demands on US President Donald Trump's negotiation statement with Iran, additional tariffs and Turkey's impact on Syria were not answered.
After completing his visit to Hungary, Netanyahu flew to the USA at Trump's invitation, according to the statement of the Israeli Prime Minister's Office. In a statement to the press, Netanyahu said that they discussed customs tariffs, ceasefire agreement negotiations in Gaza and the situation of Israeli prisoners, rising tension in Syria between Turkey and Israel and Iran issues.
Trump, who hosted Netanyahu in the Oval Office in the White House, drew attention what he said to the members of the press while making a joint statement.
It was commented in the Israeli press that Trump humiliated Netanyahu in front of the cameras in the White House and that Netanyahu came back empty-handed from the meeting.
“Shameful and humiliating”
In the analysis published on the "Walla" website with the signature of Barak Ravid, it was emphasized that Netanyahu did not get what he wanted from Washington.
Stating that Netanyahu remained in a "shameful and humiliating" situation, Ravid said, "Netanyahu found himself deprived of real ability to influence him (Trump) on critical issues such as Iran's nuclear program, the issue of tariffs and Turkey's settlement in Syria."
Noting that yesterday's meeting was the most failed meeting between the Israeli Prime Minister and Trump to date, Ravid wrote that Netanyahu just sat in front of the cameras, smiling and had to take Trump's statements.
Ravid said, “Netanyahu found himself an extra in Trump's game. For more than half an hour, the US President answered questions as if his guest was part of the set, or as Netanyahu said in that famous video, sitting like a flower pot.
Noting that Netanyahu's promise to "eliminate the trade deficit with the US" did not affect Trump, Ravid said that the US President reprimanded the Israeli Prime Minister for military aid.
Contrary to his happiness at the meeting in February, Ravid stated that Netanyahu's face fell this time and wrote, "Netanyahu seemed to have swallowed his tongue."
Ravid, who also shared the allegations about the behind-the-scenes of the meeting, said that Netanyahu expressed his concern about Turkey's activities in Syria in his meeting with Trump, asked the USA to pressure President Tayyip Erdoğan and that his request was not reciprocated.
Ravid concluded his article with the statement "It is possible to conclude that Netanyahu and the state of Israel could not get anything from this meeting".
“A surprise on the verge of humiliation”
Political analyst Anna Barsky from "Maariv" newspaper wrote that "Trump insulted Netanyahu on live broadcast, and Netanyahu's goals for the visit were shattered in this meeting."
Stating that Netanyahu "will strive to make the visit in public a success and succeed in projecting the events in his favor," Barsky said that despite this, Netanyahu "will have a hard time fud infusing the results of the visit or forgetting the incident" in response to the statements being made under direct record.
Barsky described Netanyahu's meeting with Trump as "Simply surprise, three-word humiliation is a surprise".
Pointing out that the subject of Netanyahu's visit, which was announced as "to discuss the additional 17 percent tariff imposed by the US to Israel", was actually negotiations on Washington's nuclear program with Iran, Barsky drew attention to the fact that the US "declared that it would start direct negotiations with Iran this Saturday with the host next to his guest".
Barsky said that although Netanyahu said that Israel would fill the gap in trade volume with the US, Trump "did not give the message of whether to remove the tariffs it applies to Israel, and on top of that, the US reminded that it provides 4 billion dollars in aid to Israel a year."
Pointing out that Trump emphasized his good relations with President Erdoğan, the Israeli writer reminded that Erdoğan criticized Netanyahu with harsh statements.
Barsky said, "Netanyahu's flash visit to resolve all issues at once and return to the complicated situation in Israel with points in his household, with an embarrassing event where too many question marks were left behind and few answers," Barsky said.
“Netanyahu encountered an even more humiliating response to the tariffs”
In the analysis published in Israel's "Yedioth Ahronoth" newspaper with the signature of Itamar Eichner, it was commented that Netanyahu returned home empty-handed after the rushed Trump meeting.
The analysis underlined that Trump emphasized diplomatic negotiations with Iran and continued customs duties imposed on Israeli property.
It was stated that the real reason why Netanyahu was flying to Washington in a hurry to popular belief was not tariffs, but negotiations with Iran, and Trump informed Netanyahu about high-level negotiations with the Iranians.
It was noted that the direct meeting between the United States and Iran is not what Netanyahu expected to hear, and that Trump also raised the threat of military attack if the talks failed, it was approved by the Israeli Prime Minister.
In the analysis, the statement "Netanyahu encountered an even more derogatory response to (Customs) Tariffs" was used.
Despite Israel's decision to remove customs duties on US goods, it was stated that the customs duties that the US decided to apply to Israeli goods remained in force, and Trump's statements that the USA "helped Israel a lot" was drawn and it was stated that Netanyahu returned home empty.
"Regarding Turkey's growing influence in Syria," it was underlined that Trump said he loved President Erdogan and offered to mediate to prevent a conflict between Israel and Turkey.
