'This Moment Chose You': Huckabee Urges Trump to Listen to God as He Weighs U.S. Role in Israel-Iran War

Israel's Ambassador to the U.S., Mike Huckabee, wrote to President Donald Trump, expressing his belief that he "will hear from heaven and that voice" of God as he manages the U.S. response to the Israel-Iran war.

He added that no U.S. president since Harry Truman in 1945 was "in a position like yours," and that he's the most consequential president "in a century – maybe ever."

In a text message shared by the president on social media on Tuesday, Huckabee, an evangelical pastor, describes himself as "your appointed servant in this land," saying he was sent by Trump to Israel "to be your eyes, ears and voice and to make sure our flag flies above our embassy. My job is to be the last one to leave. I will not abandon this post. Our flag will NOT come down!"

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham backed the ambassador's call, saying that Huckabee's message was "spot on."

"Since 1979, the religious Nazis who make up the ayatollah's regime have wreaked havoc on Israel and the world," he said, adding, "May God continue to bless Israel, the United States and President Trump in this historic moment."

U.S. Vice President JD Vance said on Tuesday on X that while Trump showed "remarkable restraint" in keeping the U.S. military out of the conflict, "he may decide he needs to take further action to end Iranian enrichment."

Leaving the G7 conference, U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday that a cease-fire between Israel and Iran is not enough, but instead that he wants "a real end."

"I didn't say I was looking for a cease-fire," Trump told CBS reporter Jennifer Jacobs on Air Force One, adding he expects to see a "complete give-up" by Iran, according to a Politico report quoted by Reuters.

"Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon, it's very simple," Trump told reporters on Air Force One during his overnight flight back to Washington.

Trump also said he is considering sending Vance, or his Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, to negotiate with Iran as the Islamic Republic's conflict with Israel rages on. Trump added that Iran should have taken the deal Washington offered them before Israel's attack.

When asked if the U.S. would destroy Iran's nuclear program if it were to join forces with Israel, he said he hoped the program "is wiped out long before that."

In a column published Monday, New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman urged U.S. President Donald Trump to provide Israel with B-2 bombers and 30,000-pound bunker-buster bombs to enable it to destroy Iran's nuclear facilities, "unless Iran immediately agrees to allow" IAEA teams to dismantle those facilities and grant them access.

In the piece, titled "The smart way for Trump to end the Israel-Iran War," Friedman also argues that resolving the Israel-Palestinian conflict "once and for all" requires progress toward a two-state solution and a "good deal" with Iran.

To achieve that, he writes, the U.S. should not only arm Israel with the planes and bombs capable of hitting Iran's underground nuclear sites, but also have Trump "declare that his administration recognizes the Palestinians as a people who have a right to national self-determination," while not tolerating Israel's West Bank settlement expansion and a one-state reality – and sponsor peace talks for a two-state solution.
