'Bogota' response from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: We are implementing decisions beyond proposals for Gaza

The 30 countries that gathered in Bogota, the capital of Colombia, last week against Israel's attacks on Gaza, issued a statement condemning Israel. At the meeting, a concrete action plan of 6 items was published and there were reports that Turkey did not sign this action plan. Making a statement on these news, Turkish Foreign Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized Ankara's initiatives for Gaza and said, "Decisions far beyond the proposals are implemented by our country."

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs made a statement regarding the news that Turkey did not sign the 6-point action plan announced in Bogota. "Contrary to the allegations for disinformation purposes, decisions are taken and implemented by our country far beyond the proposals registered in the Joint Declaration adopted in Bogota," the statement said.

In the previous statement of the ministry, "The allegations that Turkey did not support the Joint Statement, which was written by the Hague Group as a result of the meeting held in Bogota on 15-16 July 2025, are unfounded and for disinformation purposes. Some of the issues included in the Joint Statement published at the end of the meeting require inter-institutional coordination in terms of the international legal obligations of our country. In this context, before participating in the Joint Statement, all relevant institutions and organizations must complete the necessary preparations.

In the statement, which stated that the participation in the Joint Statement will continue until September 20, 2025, it was stated that "Currently, only 12 of the 30 countries present at the meeting have reported participation in the statement".

Then the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued another statement yesterday:

“The allegations made in recent days about our country's Palestinian policies are never compatible with the facts. We reject these initiatives aimed at slandering Turkey's support for the Palestinians with political reasons and misleading the public opinion," the following statements were included in the statement:

“Turkey pursues an independent policy in favor of law and justice on Palestine; It reacts the strongest against the genocide crimes committed by Israel in Gaza. The fact that Israeli politicians target our country at every opportunity proves the correctness of the policy followed by Turkey.

Contrary to the allegations for disinformation purposes, decisions far beyond the recommendations registered in the Joint Statement accepted in Bogota have been taken and implemented by our country. Turkey completely cut off its trade with Israel in May 2024. Since this date, no export and import transactions have been made with Israel. While this decision was being implemented, the necessary measures were carefully applied so that our Palestinian brothers and sisters would not be victims.

Turkey also takes all kinds of measures in order to prevent sales to Israel for military purposes, and also plays a leading role in international platforms. As a matter of fact, our country pioneered the initiative launched before the UN with the support of 52 countries to stop the transfer of weapons to Israel.”

"Contrary to the unfounded allegations made, our country is one of the strongest defenders of the Palestinian cause in the legal field," the following stated in the Foreign Ministry statement:

“Turkey is one of the thirteen countries involved in the genocide case filed against Israel in the International Court of Justice (ICJ). At the same time, the two separate ongoing consultative processes were contributed to the UAD. Necessary legal, consulative and political support has been provided since the beginning on issues related to Mr. Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi and Mr. Rümeysa Öztürk.

Turkey will not allow any pressure and smear campaign to be effective against this justice struggle that has been in the conscience of our nation; it will continue to stand by Palestine without compromising the principles of international law and human rights.”
