Rabbi Dr. Ismar Schorsch is chancellor emeritus of The Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) and the Rabbi Herman Abramovitz Distinguished Professor of Jewish history. He’s had a long, illustrious career of service to the Jewish community, so some where surprised by his recent essay, A Hard Tisha B’Av, which is critical of both Israel and the lack of response from Jewish leadership.
I’m honored he agreed to discuss it with me.
Topics include…
His escape from Germany in 1938
What compelled him to take this stand
Why so few have joined him
Responding to those who don’t see a connection between liberalism and Judaism
How Zionism has consumed Judaism and imperils its future
