Responses To U.S. Attack On Venezuela
Is it Iraq 2.0?
Two protests in Maine yesterday saw a lot of participation from “orange man bad” believers who somehow think the current spokesperson for U.S. imperial ambitions is the problem. The flag above, flying overhead in Brunswick where 36 protesters gathered, is emblematic of our constitution in tatters. Citizen oversight of the U.S. military? Don’t make me laugh.
A problem is that anti-Republican protesters go home as soon as a Democrat is in the White House. I’ve lived through a few of these cycles now. Most in the U.S. are thoroughly confused about the oligarchy that rules via the two corporate parties.
But for now, here we are protesting yet another war for oil. In which human beings died. In a country suffering under longstanding sanctions imposed by both parties and intended to weaken its economy and its resolve. The jury is still out about how it went down — negotiated departure, possibly with China’s participation, or “successful” raid by U.S. Special Forces (with, curiously, no opposition in the military sense)? I’m reading Vanessa Beeley, Simplicius, and I’m following the money this morning to sort through what we do and don’t know — oh and Laura of Normal Island News because her headlines alone are worth subscribing to her substack for e.g.: “Trump abducts elderly Venezuelan couple because taking hostages is good now.”
Yesterday’s crowd reaction in Brunswick was overwhelmingly positive. I wondered if it reached 70%, the percentage of U.S. respondents who toll pollsters they opposed war on Venezuela.
A few more photos from yesterday, and then some other images that seem relevant.
Natasha of the Artists’ Rapid Response Team (ARRT!) came with her eye-catching cruise missile. She would love to share it with anyone who will use it. (DM me if interested.) Like me, I think she edited her message by pasting the word Venezuela over the word Iran. Because we are against bombing both countries to steal their oil!
A sign I did not have time to make on short notice yesterday but that I think would be relevant: RELEASE THE EPSTEIN FILES. There are various reasons why the U.S. launched its shameful coup right now, but the pressure on 47 to actually release the full Epstein files as promised is undoubtedly one of them.
I’m sharing a couple of memes that I saw referencing this aspect.
Join us next Saturday in Maine to stand in solidarity with both Venezuela and Palestine.
We’ll be there at 1:30pm on the Main Street Bridge (the intersection of Main and Water Streets at Factory Island). Bring your own signs, or use one of ours.
I should have time to make that Epstein files sign by then.
