France is now in the grotesque situation where Macron openly cheers Trump's illegal act of aggression in Venezuela while Marine Le Pen condemns it, saying that supporting it would be "to accept our own enslavement tomorrow".
You just can't understand European politics with a "left-right" axis anymore. Sovereignty v submission is much more relevant.
And to make it even more absurd, Trump's National Security Strategy openly backs the likes of Le Pen - labelled "patriots" - vs Atlanticist liberals like Macron. Which frankly makes Macron even more pathetic: he genuflects to an administration that openly despises him.
