12 JANUARY—Amid the cold of another West Bank winter, the Development and Rehabilitation Association of New Askar refugee camp, also known as the Awdeh Center, has begun a “Warm Winter Campaign.” This is an effort to provide blankets for the poorest children living in the camp, which is located within the city of Nablus.

Winters are cold in the West Bank, houses are unheated, and many families cannot afford to keep their children warm during these months. It is another among the countless hardships Palestinians bear in consequence of the Israeli occupation.

The Awdeh Center’s goal is to provide 100 blankets by the end of January to the neediest of the New Askar camp. A blanket goes for 395 shekels, about $25, which means, simple arithmetic, raising $2,500 this month.

Cara Marianna, my colleague and partner, is assisting the good people of Awdeh Center. The Floutist has contributed $100—the price of four blankets. Given the goal and the schedule Awdeh has set, time is short.

I invite you to join The Floutist by supporting this worthy undertaking.

A fundraiser has been established using Chuffed. Donations can be made here. Please share this with friends and family members to widen Awdeh Center’s campaign. Any money raised beyond the targeted goal will be used for additional blankets for more children, as well as heaters for the most vulnerable families.
