Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's son, Yair, was sent to live in Miami after physically assaulting his father, a former head of the prime minister's security detail confirmed.
In an interview with Maariv on 7 February, Ami Dror stated that Yair also attacked members of the security team when they intervened to stop the altercation between Netanyahu and his son.
"There were really difficult events, and I'm giving you this from the perspective of personal security, a situation where a family member attacks your security guard, and it doesn't have to be with a firearm," Dror stated.
"Yair Netanyahu attacked his father, didn't show up for karate practice, and beat him up; there was an attack to such a level that they had to intervene in the incident," he added.
Yair departed Israel in 2023, after the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza began, staying in an exclusive compound in Hallandale Beach, near Miami. This was controversial as his father was at the same time sending other young Israeli men to be killed fighting in Gaza.
Yair has also made controversial comments regarding the Hamas offensive on Israel on 7 October, 2023, claiming that members of the military knew the night before that Hamas was preparing to attack, but did not notify his father as part of a de facto military coup attempt.
Yair's lawyer contended that his client's stay abroad was due to "persecution" that precludes him from "living a normative life."
Last year, Labor MK Naama Lazimi also publicly claimed that Yair was exiled to Miami after assaulting his father. Prime Minister Netanyahu denied it.
Lazimi questioned whether it was appropriate for the government to pay $700,000 per year for security so Yair could live abroad "because he desecrated a symbol of state authority?"
Ami Dror, who is currently a leader of the protest movement against Netanyahu and his Likud party's judicial overhaul effort, revealed additional details about the prime minister and his family from the time he spent with them.
Dror said that Netanyahu was "on a moral level, a trash can." He said that after becoming prime minister, he would often eat at expensive restaurants, force them to close to other guests, and then leave without paying the bill, forcing his aides or the restaurant owner to pay it.
"If it happens once or twice, it's fine. But once you do it every time, and you leave the bills to your assistants, to the security guards, to all sorts of people."
"He is not a person you want to be your friend. He is a person you can't turn your back to."
Dror said that Netanyahu's wife, Sara, has a mental health disorder that compels her to steal items that she does not really need.
"I've said it before, and I stand by it. Sara Netanyahu is a kleptomaniac. I've seen gifts disappear, towels from hotels. Gifts to a prime minister belong to the state, not the family," he stated.
The prime minister has been dogged for years by legal charges alleging he accepted bribes and gifts in exchange for political favors.
Dror added that Netanyahu tried to help Sara, his third wife and a former flight attendant, to gain political power in the way Hillary Clinton was able to as the wife of US President Bill Clinton.
Sara also had a "fantasy" that Yair would become prime minister after his father, because "she had a perception that he was the smartest person."
According to Dor, Sara forced Netanyahu to cut off contact with his daughter from his first marriage, Noa.
"Think about the situation where [Sara] comes and says 'enough, you're not getting close to her,' and he abandons his daughter," Dor stated.
At first, Netanyahu tried to see his daughter secretly without Sara's knowledge.
"We would smuggle him out, do real security exercises to create the encounters between them."
"I assume he tried to hide it from his wife. It was really a covert operation. It was in a cafe in Jerusalem; there were a few places like that."
The former security guard contends that Netanyahu himself should be imprisoned due to corruption and treason, including his and his staff's connections with Qatar.
"In a civilized country, a prime minister who receives gifts, disrupts procedures, and is surrounded by people who receive money from Qatar, goes to jail, and hostages were kidnapped on his watch."
"People in his office acted to delay deals. At least 44 hostages could have returned alive. It's all for political reasons," Dror added.
"Of course. People around the prime minister receive money from a country that funds Hamas, refuse to take a polygraph, and leak documents. As far as I'm concerned, contact with a foreign agent is treason."
Dror is a member of the Democrats, a left-wing Zionist political party alongside former Israeli general Yair Golan, who accused the Israeli army of "killing babies in Gaza for a hobby."
