Tehran will use the diplomatic track with the United States as soon as it comes to the conclusion that it is beneficial for its interests, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said on Wednesday.
Earlier this week, US President Donald Trump announced the extension of the truce with Iran and the postponement of the resumption of aggression against the country. This decision came in response to a request from the Pakistani leadership to provide Tehran with the opportunity to formulate unified proposals for resolving the US-Israeli war on Iran.
"Diplomacy is a tool for ensuring interests and national security. We will take steps as soon as we come to the conclusion that there is a suitable and reasonable ground to use this for the realization of national interests," Baghaei said in a statement.
Iran appreciates Pakistan's mediation efforts
Baghaei expressed appreciation for Pakistan's efforts and initiatives to end the imposed war and establish peace in the region.
Pakistan has been acting as a mediator between Tehran and Washington following the outbreak of the US-Israeli aggression on Iran.
"We appreciate Pakistan's efforts and initiatives to end the imposed war and establish peace in the region," Baghaei said.
Iran affirms right to self-defense
The spokesman affirmed Iran's readiness to defend itself and confront any aggression or threat.
He emphasized that Iran did not initiate the war, and all its actions fall within its legitimate right to respond to aggression.

Baghaei confirmed that Iran is closely monitoring field and political developments and will take the necessary measures to safeguard its interests and national security.
" The armed forces are on full alert and at maximum readiness to carry out a comprehensive and decisive defense of Iran's sovereignty against any aggression," he said.
The spokesman reiterated that diplomacy is a tool to achieve national interests and security, and Iran will use it only when the necessary and reasonable conditions are in place.
"Iran will use every opportunity and means to hold aggressors accountable and secure its rights," Baghaei concluded.
