Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in St. Petersburg on Monday for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as part of an intensive regional diplomatic tour that has already taken him to Oman and Pakistan.
Upon his arrival, Araghchi said the visit presents "a suitable opportunity to discuss war developments and review the latest updates", adding that "consultations and coordination between Moscow and Tehran are of particular importance" amid the ongoing US-Israeli war on Iran.
Araghchi said the St. Petersburg meeting is part of a broader effort to maintain close strategic alignment between the two countries on regional and international issues.
Iran's ambassador to Moscow, Kazem Jalali, had earlier confirmed that Araghchi would hold consultations with Putin focused specifically on the latest developments in the negotiations and a potential ceasefire.
Before arriving in Russia, Araghchi held talks in Muscat with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, where security in the Strait of Hormuz was a central topic.
He noted that Iran and Oman are the only two littoral states on the strait, stressing the need for close coordination, "especially since safe passage through the strait has become a global issue."
The two sides agreed to pursue further expert-level consultations on the waterway, with Abbas Araghchi highlighting "broad alignment" between Tehran and Muscat on safeguarding steady maritime transit for regional countries and global markets.
Araghchi also described his stop in Islamabad as "very good", saying the visit included important consultations on the conditions under which negotiations would continue.
He stressed that Iran's conditions in talks with the United States "are extremely important," adding that after 40 days of resilience, Iran "must absolutely fulfill the rights of the Iranian people" and secure the country's interests.
The diplomatic push comes as Iran has presented mediators with a proposed three-phase framework for negotiations.
Tehran has said talks with Washington could resume if the United States accepts the proposal.
