(Dobbs) The Last Straw For Me

Trump’s ego is such a driving force that eventually it will sink him.

There are too many bursts from this guy’s unquenchable ego to even count.

His face on the pass to enter a national park. His name on the program to obtain prescription drugs. His malevolent mug on a to-be-created $250 bill. His fingers on almost every long-revered icon in the nation’s capital. Even his ego-fueled claim again yesterday in the Iran war, completely defying reality, that “a deal is near.“ As CNN pointed out, it was the 39th time he has made that promise. It puts his “art of the deal“ in a whole new light.

But there is something called “the last straw.” Each of us might reach it at a different pace or come to it in a different place. Today, I found mine.

His appointed board of obedient trustees at Washington DC’s Kennedy Center says they will fight last week’s order by a federal judge to remove his name from the institution and return it to what it had been and always should be since the assassination of our 35th President, John Fitzgerald Kennedy: the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

The name of our 47th president is supposed to come off by the end of today. That is the deadline the judge set when he ruled that because Congress had not mandated it, renaming it last December as “The Donald J. Trump and the John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts” was illegal.

Undoubtedly acting at the command of the president, the trustees have argued that removing his name will do “irreparable harm“ to the place because fundraising has been built around it.

It’s an empty argument because ever since Trump carried off his coup, artists have canceled performances there left and right, and he already had put the Kennedy Center on the road to financial failure.

There was a glimmer of hope earlier this month when the judge issued his original order. Not because the president saw the errors of his ways— he doesn’t even know what that means — but because, like a crying little grammar school brat, he said that he was just going to wipe his hands of any further involvement in the center, including not just its imagery but its physical renovation, unless he could be “free to do what I do better than anyone else.”

The judge said that he’s not. But his loyalists are fighting that. Which makes his vow to back away yet another in his countless cascade of lies.Share

What makes it the last straw for me is that with all the threats to the lives and the livelihoods of Americans and citizens around the world right now, many of them a direct result of this president’s policies, his ignorance, and his corruption, he and his petty people are bothering with this.Leave a comment

The only relief is, the latest polls show that his approval rating has sunk to an abysmal new low: just 33%. In other words, only one out of three Americans now seem to think that Trump is doing a good job. And even that is inexplicable. But whether it’s about war and peace or installing his name on a treasure that was never his, his ego is such a driving force that eventually it will sink him. And put his name at the top of the list of history’s worst presidents.
