The sacred flag from the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza (AS) was placed over the coffin of the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, during funeral ceremonies in Iran.

Representatives of Iran’s religious communities paid their respects to the late leader alongside foreign delegations from numerous countries that attended the ceremonies.

According to CNN, the funeral and week-long mourning ceremonies were presented by Iranian authorities as a demonstration of national resilience following the recent conflict with Israel and the United States. The events took place across five cities in two countries and drew millions of mourners as well as dozens of official foreign delegations.

Russia was represented by Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, who attended as the personal envoy of President Vladimir Putin.

CNN reported that the scale of the ceremonies was intended to send a message that Iran had endured the recent war and would honor Khamenei as a symbol of the country’s strength and resilience.

The timing of the ceremonies also carried symbolic significance. They coincided with the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence and took place during the Islamic month of Muharram, a period of mourning in Shia Islam closely associated with the martyrdom of Imam Hussein.

During the ceremonies, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf declared:

“We must rise up and appeal to the world so that the world knows that the honorable and noble nation of Iran does not remain silent in the face of oppression... and will not forget the blood of its Imam.”

Reuters previously reported that some analysts argued a war intended to weaken Iran could instead strengthen its regional influence in the Persian Gulf. Separate commentary from Professor Jiang suggested that a defeat in a war with Iran would significantly undermine U.S. global hegemony. These assessments reflect the views of the cited analysts and do not represent established outcomes.
