Kremlin: Turkey's issue of selling S-400s is extremely sensitive

Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitriy Peskov evaluated the allegations that Turkey could sell the Russian S-400 air defense systems it bought to a Gulf country and stated that the issue was extremely sensitive. Peskov announced that contacts on this issue have been made between Moscow and Ankara and that the talks will continue.

Peskov stated that this issue is extremely sensitive and noted that contacts between the parties continue.
Answering the questions about the news in the Hürriyet newspaper from the Turkish press that Turkey plans to sell the S-400 systems to a Gulf country, Peskov used the following statements on the subject:
“There is only one thing I can say here, and that is that this issue is in an extremely sensitive area. We have had contacts with the Turkish side in this regard and we will continue our contacts with the Turkish side on this issue."
This development came after the statements made by the President of the United States Donald Trump during the NATO Summit held this week.
In his statement at the summit, Trump stated that the sanctions imposed on Turkey will be lifted due to the S-400 systems purchased from Russia.
When Turkey bought four S-400 batteries worth $2.5 billion from Russia in 2017, the Washington administration demanded that Ankara give up these systems and prefer American Patriot systems instead.
After Ankara did not accept this request, the United States expelled Turkey from the F-35 fighter jet program.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that S-400 systems were purchased against attack threats from Syrian territory.
