Israel assassinates director of Turkish aid group in central Gaza’s Deir al-Balah

At least nine Palestinians have been killed and 18 injured by Israeli strikes over the past 24 hours, according to Gaza's Ministry of Health

An Israeli strike killed an aid worker in central Gaza on 4 October, following several other deadly strikes against civilians in the besieged strip over the past 24 hours.

Saqr al-Qaisi, Palestinian director of the Turkish relief organization Deniz Feneri, was killed in an Israeli strike on Deir al-Balah on Sunday, according to Quds News Network(QNN).

The strike on the vehicle Qaisi was traveling in injured at least nine others.

“The targeted individual killed inside a vehicle was traveling between displacement camps for the delivery of much-needed aid including hot meals,” according to Al-Jazeera’s correspondent in Gaza City.

“Nine other people in the vicinity were wounded when the drone strike hit the vehicle traveling in Deir al-Balah city. These were people who happened to be walking on the sidewalk or crossing the road. Some of the victims are in critical condition,” the correspondent added.

According to the latest statement by the Gaza Health Ministry, released on Sunday, at least nine have been killed and 18 injured by Israeli strikes over the past 24 hours.

This brings the toll of Palestinians killed since the so-called US ceasefire plan took effect up to 1,454, the ministry said.

At least 5,090 have been wounded since then.

New casualties are reported across the besieged strip’s hospitals on a daily basis, as authorities struggle to manage the situation due to a health system that has been decimated by Israel’s genocidal war.

Israeli air raids and drone attacks on the strip have continued unabated, and occupation forces have expanded their presence across the strip, now controlling at least 70 percent of Gaza.

In August, the head of an umbrella organization representing over 100 NGOs accused US President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace for Gaza of “failing” to do its job.

Weeks later, the US-led Board of Peace unveiled a $2.5 “recovery plan” for Gaza at the UN General Assembly.

The board did not set a date for a start to reconstruction and admitted that it still faced a significant lack in funding.

"The goal of today was really just to show you that we're really fully committed to doing it," Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and unofficial aide, told board members at the September meeting held on the sidelines of the General Assembly.
