Radical illegal Israeli settlers have been called out for what they are: Jewish terrorists.

They are aided and abetted by the state of Israel, protected by its military and encouraged and supported by its National Security Minister, the radical rightwing Itamar Ben- Givr, who has armed settlers and who lives in an illegal settlement. That it would seem makes Israel a terrorist -sponsoring state.

Surely that is reason enough for the implementation of sanctions against Israel, for bilateral trade agreements to be terminated, for the pipeline that sends billions upon billions of dollars in weapons to Israel to be shut down. Surely. But it is not . Still Israel is allowed to act with impunity.

The illegal radical settlers have torched the homes of Palestinians, while Palestinian families were inside. They have tortured and taunted and stolen their land __ all in the name of religion, claiming the land for their own in the name of their religion. They have killed with impunity, driven Palestinian families off the land that they have farmed for generations in the name of their religion.

They are Jewish terrorists, no different than any group, than the Muslims, who kill in the name of their religion, or the so- called Christian nationalists, who are extremist, radical fundamentalists, who are openly willing to kill in the name of their religion.

Heidi Levine, a deeply respected photojournalist, who was beaten mercilessly by a group of masked, stick -wielding radical settlers in the occupied West Bank called them monsters.

“I have witnessed their behavior attacking families . . . I am so ashamed as a parent myself, how a parent can raise such individual monsters,” Heidi said from her hospital bed, her voice shaking as she recounted her ordeal.

She feared for her life. It was her Palestinian colleagues and Palestinian residents who aided her escape. She thought she would be killed. She called her attackers what they are Jewish terrorists.

“And yes they are Jewish terrorists and they are giving everyone in the country a horrible reputation and unfortunately everyone is seeing them who they are,” Heidi said, certain the perpetrators of the brutal assault would never face justice for their crime. “You know what sadly none of them will be prosecuted I am sure of it.”

On her ‘X” page Heidi tells of her goal as a photojournalist. “My goal is to use photography as a universal tool that has no language or cultural barriers and can be interpreted without translation to everyone.

Heidi has a special place in my heart. She was the first recipient of the Anja Niedringhaus Courage in Photojournalism Award, given annually by the International Women’s Media Federation. The award is named for my precious friend and colleague, Anja Niedringhaus, who was killed in 2014 in eastern Afghanistan when a renegade Afghan police commander opened fire on the car in which we were sitting, alone, laughing. Anja, who was sitting by my side, died. The police commander emptied his AK-47 into our vehicle. Anja was hit by several bullets. I was hit by seven.

Anja, a brilliant photographer, shared Heidi’s commitment to tell the story of others, of their courage, their suffering.

Anja would always say: “I do my job simply to report people’s courage with my camera and with my heart.”

Anja, right and I after an embed with the Pakistan army in 2012 in the mountains on the border with Afghanistan...
